The Moon Ritual Guide
Align your intentions with the lunar cycle
A gentle, practical guide to working with the moon's phases — not rules to follow perfectly, but rhythms to come back to when life feels overwhelming. For modern mystics who want grounded, simple rituals.
This guide isn't about doing everything right. It's about picking one small ritual per phase and letting the rhythm anchor your week. Consistency matters more than perfection.
The Four Key Phases
The new moon is a blank page. Energy is low and inward. This is the time to plant seeds, not harvest them.
- 1Light a candle and take three slow breaths.
- 2Write ONE intention for the cycle ahead. Not five. One.
- 3Ask: what do I want to call in? What am I ready to release?
- 4Close the ritual by saying your intention out loud.
"This new moon, I am planting the seed of [your intention]. I trust the process and release the need to control the outcome."
The waxing moon brings energy and momentum. Obstacles may appear. This is the time to act on your intention, not just think about it.
- 1Review your new moon intention. Is it still aligned?
- 2Identify ONE action that moves it forward this week.
- 3Do the action, even if it's imperfect.
- 4Acknowledge the resistance. It means the intention is real.
"I am taking aligned action toward [your intention]. I release perfectionism and trust that small steps create momentum."
The full moon is peak energy — often intense. Things come to light. This is the time to celebrate what's working and release what isn't.
- 1Write down three things that went well this cycle.
- 2Write down one thing you're ready to release. A fear, a habit, a story.
- 3Say: "I release this. It no longer serves me."
- 4Burn, tear up, or symbolically let go of the paper.
"Under this full moon, I celebrate [what worked]. I release [what no longer serves me]. I make space for what's next."
The waning moon invites rest and reflection. Energy turns inward. This is the time to integrate lessons, not start new things.
- 1Journal: what did this cycle teach me?
- 2Rest without guilt. The pause is part of the rhythm.
- 3Prepare for the next new moon by clearing physical or mental space.
"I honour the rhythm of rest. I integrate the lessons of this cycle and prepare for the next with a clear heart."

Celebrate + release
You don't need to do a ritual at every phase. Start with the new moon and full moon only. That's enough to feel the rhythm.
How to Build a Moon Ritual Habit
- 1Set a monthly reminder for the new moon and full moon dates.
- 2Keep your ritual simple: candle, journal, 5 minutes.
- 3Don't worry about doing it "right." Showing up is the ritual.
- 4Track your intentions across cycles — patterns will emerge.
- 5Be gentle with yourself when you miss a moon. The cycle continues.
